Zebra Danios

I have zebra dainos. I have 2 Blue Danios, 2 Long-fin danio's and a regular danio at the moment. I have had 1 for 2 years and another for 4 years. Usually they do not get curved backs unless there is a deficiency in the water. Did you buy them with a curved back? Could you get a photo up?

This Zerba danio has TB. LINK

A normal danio should look like this in the link....LINK

i've got 5 zebra danios and one has an arched back altho it isn't as bad as when i first got them !

it seems to do aswell as any of the other fish !

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

zebra danios are heavily farmed and a curved back is most likley to be a genetic deformaty
caused by inbreeding. the second most common cause for a curved back is a dietry insufficancy.
the first, we can do nothing about but the second will improve given a good diet.

it is very very rare to buy a fish with TB so don't even go down that road untill all other avenues have benn exhausted.

Wow.. I've never seen a picture of a fish with that curved spine thing before.. always read about it but I just wasn't expecting that. Freaky..... poor lil fish... but freaky nonetheless... reminds me of a fancy goldfish

i used to have a pair of blue danios that actually spawned once, and within afew weeks of having spawned one of them (tho im not sure if it were the male or female) developed a slope of its spine. it acted fine ate well and everything. however this fishes back created more of an arch than anything else. im not sure what caused it, and unfortunetly it happened about 5-6 years ago so i have no pictures for you to compare your fish to sorry. theres just too much inter breeding goin on these days. all i can say is if you could get a picture of them up then someone might be able to help you.

I considered buying zebra danios... but my tank is already stocked up. My lfs sells them cheap at about 3 zebra danios for $1.20!

Thanks folks, they look like the link of one with tb. They were fine but have all been eaten. i won't be going to that shop again. I did question whether they were deformed or ill.

Eaten by who? I hope they weren't eaten by other fish, the most common way for fish tb to spread is by fish eating the dead carcasses of fish who had died from it or were carrying it.
Fish tb is near impossible to treat (there aren't any premade/mixed meds that treat it), the best and most effective way to prevent it spreading to every fish in the tank is to euthanise any fish that start to show tb symptoms like spinal curvature. NTD (neon tetra desease, despite the name it is not confined to neon tetras) can also show similar symptoms to fish tb and is just as bad.
