Hi all

Just a couple of questions:

These things always seem hungry, I am trying to stick to one feed every 24hrs but am sure they need a slightly smaller feed every 12hrs?

Is it normal for these to chase each other around, they seem to go mental every now and then chasing the smaller zebra's around the tank - I have 6 in there

Many thanks

Thats nothing,i used to have about 30 of them chasing each other around...yes it is normal. They are know as "hyperactive" fish and never hardly keep still..if you watch them closley you will see that they kind of bump into each other then the chasing starts.. although they sometimes do it too other species aswell...but they mean no harm and your other question is "yes" they are always hungry as are most fish.I suppose any healthy fish will not stop eating until it bursts, or something along those lines :D

hi we used to have zebra danios & they were ALWAYS zipping round at a million miles an hour its quite normal behaviour! you might like to feed a smaller amount twice a day if possible it might suit them better. i feed our fish in the morning & again in the early evening.
zebras also LOVE a bit of water current in the tank we put in an internal fluval3 even though we had an external filter & they were fab to watch taking turns at swimming battling the flow fighting till they got up & over the filter then going to the end of the queue for another go...........gorgeous fish! :D

I also had this question when I first got my Danios like 10 months ago. I learned that the chasing is normal and that is why they need a lot of open space to swim. The biggest female is probably the one doing most of the chasing. She is the one that leads the school and makes all the rules. I have a really big female that clearly leads the school I have. Other then the chasing, they swim all over the tank, all the time. Its fun to watch.

Excellent

Have chosen to feed them 2 smaller feeds a day

There is one bigger (i think female), the long fin variation and *she* does loads of chasing!

Cool fish and great to watch

i have had the same experience with all the danios i have ever had. the dominant female leads the pack and they will be all over the tank whether they are chasing or not, but chasing does happen often. the dominant female in my current group also tends to chase the black neons they are with when the neons get in the way(appear in sight).
