I don’t know what is wrong with it, It has only come up over the past 3 days, these are images, any help appreciated. In a 20 gallon cube, with 3 other danios, around 3 years old. I know the photos aren’t great, unfortunately. (Photos currently not adding so I will try and add them to a reply to this)

I’ve seen that condition in fish before but I do not have the slightest idea what it is or what causes it but it’s always fatal .
I have seen a decline in 2 of them over the past week, and I would be more worried but I have had them for 4 years so I think they have had a good life.

This, in my experience has always been related to sustained water quality problem.

I qualify it as some sort of "Dropsy" caused by environmental deficiencies in the long run.

And as @Back in the fold mentioned has always ended with death.

This may be a strange thing to ask but this is just for my piece of mind, do you think it was my fault, I have kept them well over the past 4 years and I wouldn’t want to think that I killed it, but if it was all my fault please say.

Zebra danios generally live 3-5 years in an aquarium.
One of the others has also obtained an “s” shaped back over the past few weeks, is the something that will also be fatal ? Or is there a treatment ?

I am not certain.

I've always assumed this was a geriatric danio issue. And if memory serves, that's the way the vintage aquarium literature called it, which may be where my assumption was born.

No, not your fault, the water we have home is not always perfect to the point that fishes break longevity records.

But still with time certain conditions causes organs to fail a little faster than they should. And illness can take advantage of that.

Also should be noted that zebra danios are massively bred, so genetics can be all over the place.

Old age generally can cause a lot of bloat or spinal deformities, and that's sometimes just how it is.

With the age of this fish, it would not be unexpected to encounter these problems. Try not to take it personally ☺️
