Below are three pictures of the same Zebra Danio, they’re not great pics I’m afraid but the best I could do. In the circled area there is what is best described as a pox marks they appear in exactly the same place on both sides of the fish roughly 1 – 2mm away from the gills. Originally these where slightly swollen + the fish was lethargic, on consultation with an lfs & reading about symptoms on various web-sites I took these to be ulcers which I treated for five days with Myaxin. The fish picked up within a couple of days after starting treatment & the swellings went down within about three days. The fish it self seems totally fine now but as I’ve described above has been left with what I can only describe as pox marks. Do I need to carry on treating? Or is this normal & healthy flesh will grow back in time. Water parameters are good & all other fish are fine.

I had a danio with that kind of mark.
the only thing I could put it down to at the time was physical damage.
I treated with melafix, as that promotes regeneration of skin.
mine healed up and was ok in a week.

If that’s the case, the only thing I could think of is that it picked up damage when they where being netted for transfer (no easy task) to a bigger tank, they where fine at the time I was asking you about breeding a couple of weeks back though, which was a week after their move. Do you have any ideas what could cause that sort of damage?

yup, netting is often the cause, either directly or indirectly (bashing into things to get away from the net).
don't worry unless the wounds become infected, which I doubt as you treated with an anti-bacterial.

A I agree with The_Wolf, however, since you started treatment, I would complete it for at least 5-7 days. Why? If these indeed are open wounds and you started antibiotic therapy, partial treatment may leave you with 'stronger bugs' hangin' around. It's always a smart thing to complete a full therapy with antibiotics once started (unless it was a total error to begin with). SH

I have noticed that the fish in question is a female danio. I have a female with the smame mark, i think it's from when they sparwn, the males chase them round untill she rubbes againts/into plants, rocks or gravel. My opinion would be that it's from rubbing the scales against rough surfaces. That's my opinion anyway. Does it seam plausable to anyone else?
