Hi Everyone,

I've 6 zebs in my tank, and I've noticed that one is sitting at the bottom of the tank, struggling to move around.
This appears to be because it's missing most of it's tail fin.

Now is there any chance that it'll grow back, or should I consider 'putting it down'.

I think this one has been beaten upon by the dom. fish.

If he's resting on the bottom of the tank he's not sounding to good i'm afraid, can you issolate him, he might not be able to tolerate a med, is he heavy breathing.

I only have one tank, so I don't think I could isolate him. He does appear to be breathing heavily.
I'm also concerned that he cant get to any food.

Sad to say he's not going to make it by the sounds of it, can you put him in a ice cream box at the top of the tank with some tank water in it, or do you have a little breeder container.

are they the only fish in your tank??? and if ya want fish flakes to reach him hold a small pinch in the water for few seconds than let go and it will sink we do this for our clowns and corys plus the midwater feeders thats aswell catfish pellets. but if theres other fish in your tank could one of these mayb b a fin nipper???

What are your recent ammonia, nitrate and nitrite stats(if you have any) plus what is your average tank cleaning regime and how often do you go about it? How long has the tank been set up and how long have you had the danios? Does the danio look anything like this;

It did look similar to the one posted. I put him down yesterday, as the dominant zeb was really picking on him, and he could not get to any food. Also, as of Friday, everyone of the fish in the tank was fully formed.

What has really got me is that the dominant zeb is missing this evening. I cant find him anywhere in or around the tank.

As for my tank, it's a month old. The first two weeks were spent using pre-matured filter material from maidenhead aquatics and Nutrifin cycle. Before putting the first four zebs in, Ammonia and Nitrite were 0, and Nitrate was approx 90 mg/l. I water changed (20%) before going to get them. I'm currently changing water when it hits approx. 50 mg/l, which is every 4 days average.

As for tank cleaning, Im open to ideas to what I should do. Also, is it essential that I find this missing zebra. In the last two weeks, I've had two go missing (found one, dead) and put one down. This leaves four, as I added three on Friday.

Feeling a bit :( at the moment, as I want happy, healthy fish.

What's your tap nitrate, as thats high i would do some daily water changes to fetch your nitrates down, sorry for your loss, R.I.P.

Tap Nitrate is c5 mg/l.

If finrot is a suspect in the tank, what can I do to help prevent any recurrence, ie water changes/ finrot treatment.

Your tank isn't very large, only about 12gals, zebra danios really need somthing closer to 20gals+ as they are very active fish but since they are all you have i suppose they will be alright for the mean time- danios are very sociable fish and can be quite nippy, the larger the group you have the more the agression is dispersed between them and the less chance there is of one single danio getting picked on 24/7; i would advise you get another 2 danios as it will help sort out the pecking orders in your fish and to also add some extra planting so any danios that get too harrassed will have some where to hide, also i would advise you consider upgrading your tank soon as that will help a huge amount too :nod: :thumbs: .
