yesterday, i upgraded my 30litre tank to 50, all is well, clear water, plants are all good. the difference is temperature, its slightly warmer .basically, the fish have been there for 1 day, and i have realized that my zebra danios have been chasing 2 other zebra danios, they're both slightly fatter but 1 thats being chased has whiskas. are they spawning? if they have 'whiskas' then are t5hey males or females. are they spawning? the other zebras chasing them are slimmer

All Zebra Danios, infact all members in the Danio family have whiskers. Spawning is only when the eggs are actually being released. What you are actually experiencing is actually spawning behaviour

ZBs chase each other ALL the time, however if you notice this has sped up slightly then it's spawning behaviour (as Carl says).

You should notice a colour difference between the males and females. The females will keep the silver lines on the body whilst the males lines will be a faint gold.

. So let's saay they're spawning, how long would the eggs take to hatch 9v?
Would they be safe in a bushy plant of nine ??

Sadly ZBs are terrible parents. Seconds after they have spawned if they see any eggs they will eat them. You'll be very lucky if any fry survive, even in a heavily planted tank.

thankyou, ill just have to hope for the best then

What about a custom made tank?

My next one may well be custom as I would quite happily have it 4 inches deeper front to back and 6 inches taller than standard to increase the volume.
It's best to separate the parents as soon as the parents finish spawning.

I just successfully bred zebra danios this summer. I did a bit of research, but mostly followed the advice on THIS thread very closely. If you have any questions feel free to message me or join on the Chat. Im usually there.
