I recently added a Pakistani loach to my 180l tank to reduce a snail problem i've been having.

However, over the past week it has appeared to latch itself onto my Dwarf Gourami and moves itself along the head and body of the gourami, almost appearing to be cleaning him.

My gourami doesn't show any signs of stress and makes no effort to escape this erratic behaviour. If I was the gourami i'd certaintly be getting a wee bit annoyed, and so asume that he is too!

I've also noticed that when my loach comes out to play, my cardinal tetras go into shy mode and stay in the corner of the tank, almost hiding away.

Anyone suffered any similar problems like this one described?

hi
pakistani loaches are very social creatures and should be in a group of at least 3+ ( saying this we have only 2 bought in ignorance over 8 yrs ago and have no room for more). ours occasionally will swim very close & almost chase one of our tiger barbs around, ive read that this is either considered to be either some kind of bonding behaviour or also ive read other accounts that this is an aggressive type behaviour. the behaviour youve described is a little different to what ive seen with our loaches but as yours is alone maybe hes lonely or just curious, as a peaceful type fish id watch your gourami for signs of stress which may occur if your loach continues to do this, even better can you add a couple more pakistani loaches. they are known as semi aggressive fish and are very boisterous at times which is probably why your cardinals are hiding. we have cardinals with our loaches but as the 2 species have sort of grown up together & we have loads of plants te cardinals dont really seem bothered at all by their mad tankmates. hope this helps.
