already fallen into the first tank too small syndrome. so i have now aquired a 48x18x 18 tank which i was going to filter using ethier a Fluval 404 or Eheim 2217.

Can any one advise which would be the best filter to buy i was planning to keep either Discus or Cycilids. Will this affect my choice of filter.

I think for quality(at a price) the eheim filters are hard to beat. They tend to be very efficient and reliable.THe fluvals are generally cheaper but are also a great filter. But i have found many times in this hobby the brand name does make a difference. So if the prices are comparable i would go with the eheim but if not i would choose the fluval the differences are not that great to substantiate a large dollar difference. My Opinion Only

Both filters will get the job done. The Fluval is easier to work with, the Eheim is much higher quality.
