I thought it would be nice for members to post their favourite place on earth, with a reason why, and accompanied with a pic or 2...

Here's mine:

Place name: Levuka, Ovalau, Fiji Islands
Google Maps link: Levuka, Fiji
Reason: It's my home from home, where my wife's family lives and where I've spent a great deal of time and will retire to...the people, the place, the air, all of it fills me with a love of life :)

New year water fights up in the hills (my son is at the front with the big bottle, oh and in Fiji 2 fingers up actually means peace!):

We visit Orlando Florida evey year, sometimes twice a year. would like to visit other part of the USA, esp The Deep South

Place name: Medellin Colombia

Google Maps link:Medellin

Reason: It's my home from home aswell..My wife is from here..We are planning to emigrate, has been put on the back burner, but not forever!
I love the weather its permanantly between 23-28c<known as the city of eternal spring! The life there is like a perminant summer, partys all the time and the social lifes much better..what with having tropical fish on tap :shifty: its heaven..If you like christmas then this is the place to be,i have never been anywhere that spends so much on lights/partys and parades.it is stunning,if you want to know more google < medellin christmas> you wont be disapointed :fun:

The city nestled in the Aburrá Valley, one of the more northerly of the Andes in South America. It is located at 5,000 ft (1,500 m) above sea level, its climate is not as hot as other cities located at the same latitude near the equator. Because of its altitude above sea level and privileged location in the Andes Range.

@SH

Wow, those mountains at Grindelwald look stunning, such a contrast of size to the buildings...puts a person in their place!
I am glad you found a place out of the way in Fiji too, I hope you have spent time with the locals outside of the resort to get the real deal village life experience

I still drink Yaqona atleast once a month and have tracked down all the local Fijians I can in my home town to have kava sessions with

Fiji is stunning. Just far to get to. Grindelwald and Wengen are probably two of the most beautiful places on earth. SH

My first favourite is
porlockbay11a.jpg
Porlock, Somerset. More specifically,

Burrowhayes Farm in Porlock. I went there every summer for about 7/8 years-ish before I moved to New Zealand.

My second favourite is the area I live now, Auckland

definitely the lake district. climbed Helvellyn last summer, it was really cool. striding edge is crazy. you are stood on a bit of rock only a couple of meters wide with a thousand foot drop on either side. i'm going again this year, and doing the via ferrata.

via ferrata:

i'll add some of my pics from Helvellyn when i go on my parents laptop, as that's where i put the pics, and i haven't had time to put them on my laptop.

cheers :good:

definitely the lake district...

Ever since watching all those wainwright walks on the TV I keep meaning to head up to the lake district, I love hiking, I spend 6 months doing it in Canada, and would love to do the coast to coast one day.

I'd love to see those pics you mentioned :)
