I voted for canisters even though I like bio-wheels as well. What tipped my vote is my Marineland Magnum 350. I couldn't imagine not having one. I use the micron filer with diatom powder after every water change. Best product I have (that and my python)!!

Would have to say canister, just more efficient :D

Eheim Classic canister filters (models 2213,2215,2217)

Benefits: super reliable, completely silent, very effective, top notch quality, 0 water bypass, extremely versatile, completely silent.

I voted for sumps as I prefere to use these. I also like internal built in filters. (out of glass etc, not fluval's)

ste :)

My choice is a sponge filter.

It does not disturb the water too much (for my Betta) and is fry friendly. :)
(I'm loking for a little quieter air pump for it, however.)

Sponge filters come is various sizes for different sized tanks, too.

Completely silent x 2!!! That must be berry berry quiet!!!
However, if you want to go with fluval, you can get 3 fluvals for the same price of an eheim :p

Aquaclear HOB .....they are just so simple to maintain......even I can't muck em up

.....mind I've only got smaller tanks ....3ft being the biggest of them all

or you could just do one tank right.

Canisters. I use Eheims. Why, they are efficient, quiet and don't take up any space either in or around the top of the tank.

Yup, they sure are. But you can only get 1.5 fluvals for the price of an Eheim classic, 3 fluvals for an Eheim Pro ;)

My Filters
2 AC Mini
1 Whisper Mini
1 AC 150
2 AC 200
1 Bio-Wheel 330
1 AC 300
1 Emperor 400

I voted other. I think AquaClear is the best filter ever. It has alot of Media Area (not as much as a canister but the most of all HOB filters), they are extremely quiet, reliable, and they require little attention. If you forget the replace the cartriges in Bio-wheel Filters the water gets cloudy not so with AC's. I once forgot to change the cartriges in my AC 200 (in my 30 Gallon tank) for 3 months and the water was still crystal clear. I have another 30 Gallon with a Bio-Wheel 330 and the water is always cloudy. I replace the cartriges every 2 weeks and still never clears up. I also have an Emperor 400 Bio-Wheel. Both Bio-Wheels are loud compared to the AC's. For tanks up to 55 gallon (my biggest, cant say for over that size) I think AC's are the best..
