Whilst out fish shop looking yesterday,I found a yo-yo loach in a malawi tank. He is about 6inches in length, but he is the fattest loach I had ever seen. He looks "wrong" in some ways.....just sort of wobbles on his belly from one place to the next.He can swim, but prefers to weeble around. I really didn't know that fish could have a weight problem.....I am assuming that this fish has just been eating too much.....any other thoughts would be good.
I had to buy him as I didn't want to leave him at the shop(bit of a sucker when it comes to loaches) and he wasn't much money....£5.50.
Botias are known for being greedy and often feeding excessivly which can lead to a large/distended stomach area. I have a group of Botia kubotai that seemed to like their food more than most others, two of those swim with a kind of lazy wobble which it sounds like you are describing. It tends to take place when they are moving around during the day, in the evening and night time hours when they are expecting food they change, swimming like any normal Loach.
oh i love the image of your yoyo weebling around chali!!! can you post a pic of the 'fat one' id love to see it. we have 2 yoyos & although not obese theyre about 9 cm long & they spend a lot of their time lolling around on rocks....im sure if they keep on munching bloodworm + tabs as they do they too will be weebling around.
