The smallest of my yo-yo loaches spends a lot of time swimming up and down the side of the tank. It continues to do this for quite a while even when the lights go out and all the other fish are resting. I haven't noticed it flashing or otherwise seeming uncomfortable and it's not being picked on by the others. I'm puzzled, is it stressed? I'm beginning to think its just following its reflection in the glass! Any ideas?

is it a recent addition to the tank? one of my yoyo loaches did this for the first week he was in my tank. wait a while, it should settle down.

hi
we have 2 yoyos & over a year ago i posted as i was concerned about one of ours as he would swim in figure of 8's up & down one corner of our tank for hours on end. most replys just stated it was just 'mad' loach behaviour & i think it must have been as it stopped suddenly although the other loach is at the moment quite partial to swimming up & down round & round our thermometer until i find it floating the next morning. theyre quite daft at times but great characters.im sure its nothing to be worried about esp if your tank is a decent size for it (ours are in a 4ft) and theres enough little crevices/caves /bogwood etc for them all to have their own little hidey hole territory.
you'll prob find one day it just stops & just starts doing something else to amuse itself! :D

My newer younger one is always swimming around looking for food and playing with the other yoyos. One of the others will sometimes swim up and down the side like yours. They do like to hide too though. Mine have claimed the castle. :)

Sounds normal to me. Mine do crazy stuff like that all the time. Their new thing is to swim circles in the air bubbles from the air stone...
