Hi Folks, I got a lovely common plec from somebody with a small tank(why do people sell these fish to people with small tanks? it was a large local pet place) , it was 6" when I got it, its now 18", it used to be quite placid, but just lately it has gone a bit mad,
its dug up every plant, and is now trying to dig its way under all of the bogwood and stones, I know it is too big for my 4ft tank now.
1 does anyone in the northwest have room for it?
2 if not any suggestions short of getting a massive tank(not an option)

Would love to see photos. When did you get it?

In all honesty, I don't know what to suggest aside from getting a larger tank. And I doubt a local fish shop will take one of that size in anymore... It's good to know that its growth wasn't stunted, at least (presumably).

Maybe saving up for a 5+ft aquarium might just have to go on your list of things to do in the future... It also opens you up to more space for plants, decoration and other stuff.

I'd also love a photo of the poor guy. Perhaps using bins or carts typically for a pond would allow you to expand in a cheap way? Or maybe there's a nearby aquarium or fish rescue place you could reach out to?

I was thinking this... Maybe an industrial sized plastic tub or something. Not a permanent solution but might be something helpful.

If you don’t have the fund to purchase a bigger tank, you may have to return it to the pet store. :/
