 Hiya people,i have just got myself a male betta hes gorgeous, also in the tank are 2 pepperd corys.Ihave just been reading lots of stuff about aquarium salt that says to add the salt to the Bettas tank water,is it safe to do this if there are corys in the tank?
Bit confused can you advise me please.
Thanx Sue

No, not with the cories, it's very harmful to them (burns their skin). I don't use salt with my bettas, you should be fine without ;)

I've heard that bettas and cories always do well together because they don't need or can't have salt. :/
Hi Aqua_Princess64 :)

I keep bettas in my cory tanks and find them to be an excellent combination because the bettas live at the top and the corys on the bottom. There is no potential conflict between them.

Some people do use salt in their bettas water, but IMHO, as a disease preventative, nothing will take the place of lots of fresh and clean water. Salt will not take the place of water changes.

That's why it's much easier to care for bettas, or any fish. in a large cycled tank than in a bowl or very small tank. The water chemistry and temperature tend to stay more stable and that's so important to prevent disease. While bettas can be kept in bowls or even vases, if the temperature can be kept the same, it takes true commitment and dedication to the fish to be successful at it.
