Hi all

I got 2 yellow rabbit snails a few days ago, picked 2 looking healthy and active and also 2 wood shrimp at the same time.

Anyway the snails were super active at first but for the past 24 hours they’ve been pretty much motionless, slightly out of their shells but not moving.

I did give them both a nudge to see if they were alive and they retreated into their shells suggesting they are but I’m worried. Is this normal snail behaviour or not?

Tank parameters:
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 5-10ppm
pH ~6.5
Very soft water - I’m going to add limestone soon to harden the water a bit
Planted tank containing 2 pearl gourami, 3 bronze Corydoras, 13 glass catfish, 8 neon tetras and the 2 wood shrimp and 2 snails

Everyone else is behaving normally. I did see a shrimp swimming around a lot so did a water change last night and they seem much happier settled fanning away.

Any help much appreciated!

No idea what a rabbit snail is but if aquatic snails are not happy it is usually something in the water. The pH might be lower than where they came from and will eventually dissolve their shells so limestone will help get the pH up a bit.

Try doing a big water change and gravel clean and see how they do after that.
Make sure any new water is free of chlorine/ chloramine before it is added to the tank.

Do not mess with the PH,

Rabbit snails eat plants

They’re not doing anything now :(
Checked them and they’re alive but just refusing to come out at this point. pH is stable - slightly acidic. Not going to mess with it

I'm having the same problem with my new rabbit snail. He was very active at the store and when I first put him in the tank. 24 hours later he was behind a decoration and ildidnt move for a whole day. This morning he had moved about an inch and there was white left where he had been laying. I called my aquarium store and they said he was having a calcium problem, however it was strange to have it show up that quickly. My PH is also a bit low, about 6. So today I added some crushed coral to my filter and threw in some wonder shells. I'm hoping that the calcium will improve the KH, thus bringing up my PH and that the added minerals will make the snail happier. I dropped a wonder shell right next to him and spent about an hour staring at him to see if he would react and I did see a bit of movement. I finally decided to call it a night. I'm hoping tomorrow he will be on the wonder she'll feasting and when I test the water my levels will be up. Here's to hoping! Good luck

Unfortunately they both died after a few days, but I hope you’re gets better! :)
I was pleasantly surprised this morning when I woke up. Jeremy was happily sucking on the wonder she'll and I saw him later climbing up the aquarium wall. This was after two days of zero movement. I think he really needed the extra minerals! Now he's sitting on top of the air stone having fun with the current blowing up his shell. Lol
