I have what I am assuming are labidochromis caeruleus, judging by pics I've seen. One is solid yellow and the other is a light cobalt blue w/ pale vertical stripes. Anyway, I had to separate them because the blue one constantly chased the yellow one. The yellow one is temporarily in a 10-gallon tank. We're cycling a 240 gallon at the moment and when that is cycled I will move both of them into a 55-gallon that is currently housing other fish.
Since the yellow one has been in the 10-gallon by itself, it has totally redecorated the place. It has made small caves under the big rocks (which I know is normal) even though it has a couple of other man-made caves to hide in. It has made several hills and the gravel is stacked up high in each corner of the tank. It must work really hard at night because every morning when I get up and look at the tank, it looks different. It is so interesting and I think it looks very nice. I don't think I could decorate it any better myself.
My blue one doesn't do this at all. He is temporarily sharing 15 gallons with some other fish in a 55 gallon tank (with a tank divider of course). He has a couple of man made caves that he hides under but that is it, none of the digging and gravel spitting like the yellow one.
I'm wondering if this is a characteristic of a female?
