just seen yellow convict on another post how common are they in the uk and what sort of price are they does anyone on here keep them i want to know more about them .

They are one of the rarer members of the old cryptoheros family but still possible to find in some specialist shops or through breeders and auctions. Prices will vary between where you go, usually dependent on supply if a store has a breeder supplying regular batches the price will be pretty low but if its off stock lists I can imagine higher prices.

Where abouts are you from?

hi will im in north london , what is there temprament like ive googled them but one site says very aggresive and another site says qiute placid for a cichilid .

Erm Ive never kept them, I believe they are one of the more shy cyrptoheros but with regards internet site ratings they often compare cichlids to guppies not in the scheme of cichlids in general.

Have you been to the aquatic design center on great portland street? They get some nice cichlids in or at least should be able to order them in for you :)

im only up the road from wildwoods i can get them to order in for me , im really trying to find out as much as i can about them i dont want to make the wrong fish choice ive found if you ask in lfs they just tell you what you want to hear , i prefer to listen to fish keepers.

I only know what I have read, I am interested in getting some to breed longer term. Quite small maxing out at 3" maybe 4" at best and are more sensitive than your average cichlid. They are a true species not like blue convicts

Shame you're not round the corner from me or I'd go halves on a group purchase with you.....in maybe a months time....

p.s. I hope your not going to breed hybrids

Convict and Honduran Red Point crossbreed...but probably not so straight forward, probably over a couple of generations...

I get the feeling that google is your best friend here.....it might be worth asking around at LFS to see if they are even obtainable...I haven't see any available in the various shops I visit

PM'd a link, hope it comes though okay, was blocked to post here as a competing forum

got the link but wont open keeps saying page unavailable . really wierd they are a stunning fish suprised they are not popular

they're listed as Vulnerable on the ACA Cares list, so may be hard to get hold of unless you find a breeder somewhere

Search on common name or scientific name for forum based discussions in Google, you'll find interesting info in the first 10 hits.... That was the best source for info I found. The links get messed up when posted or PM'ed...
