Just picked up a 36x18x15 tank fo0r £30!!

Well chuffed, just need to get lights and a hood for it and im set!

any ideas on what to do with it?

Simple clamp on lights would be sufficient until you got something better sorted.

Lighting isnt cheap, but as minnnt said you could buy some clip ons, a couple would do, for now.. or build a box with a tube in it, you need a starter unit and some mdf..

I bought a t5 ballast off ebay for 3£ and arxadia lamp holders for a tenner then you just need wireing

Well my grandad is a carpenter so I'm gonna get him to build me a little lift up cabinet for my filter etc and a lid with stuff built in for lighting so thats all good. What would I need? A ballast, starter unit and tubes and wires?

The starter has wires with end caps which you plug the tube into (bought seperately). It is the ballast lol

Thats just a T8 20W one, if you search Hagen Glo Controller in eBay there's T5s and different wattages etc

Paint the inside of your box white for more reflection if you want...

Sorry I have no idea! So say I wanted two T5, would i have to buy two of those things in the link for T5 tubes?

Hehe it just maybe lol, ill get the link for you, but T5 double are more expensive, plus are you really needing two T5s? What plants you gonna keep?

You could always use the 24W T5s instead of 39W, as you are pushing the length with the 39Ws, as they are just over 33" long

24w T5's will be ample. I like T8's though personally.

You can buy the tubes from a DIY shop like B&Q Hanny - they are the same thing, just without the ridiculous mark up! the expensive bit is the starter unit, second hand is the way to go but there's stiff competition...
