does anyone know if it is safe to use yacht varnish in a tank?

i would say so as it has to be marine grade but i dont know how it would affect your tank mate personally i wouldnt use it internally but it would be fine externally on like your cabinet stand and hood

Should be fine, would air it out and wash it down for at least 1-2 months though, and do a few coatings.
It has very high VOC levels.
Have used it in building fake rock/waterfall in reptile tanks.
What do you want to use it on?

I don't know much about these things, but I would think varnish for marine yachts will not let off anything as long as its well soaked after coating and drying to remove any loose outer coat bits. I mean, environmental agencies wouldn't allow it to release junk into the water would they? And it has to be tough to put up with the limpet things that attach to the outside.

I'm just guessing really, but it's a reasomably educated guess.

very true but a fishtank is a very different thing to an ocean
just an example if you put 10ml of bleach in a tank it will kill all the fish as it is loads more concentrated in a small area if you put the same in an ocean it wouldnt do anything at all not a very good example at all i knbow but im not very good with words lol :good:

I was going to use it to paint/ seal some bambo( garden canes) any other suggestions on what to use!?

"...and the bamboo should be soaked for a couple of weeks. Once the bamboo is soaked, it should be dried and for extra safety, a coat of clear polyurethane varnish can be applied. It is important to only use clear polyurethane varnish with no added chemicals or colourants that could be toxic to aquarium life. After a variable length of time, the varnish is likely to peel away, by this time however, the bamboo will have steadily absorbed enough water to prevent any fouling, and the varnish can be simply peeled away."

Yacht varnish/epoxy resin are fine if given adequate time to air out, while being washed down.
I don't know about having degrading polyurethane varnish in a tank though..
