Y Did They Die?

on wednesday night my female platie had her second lot of babies, her 1st lot al cam out healthy but i only managed 2 save 4 as she had them late at night and they r doing great, but her 2nd lot al came out wel 'deformed' they where pure milky white and their bellys were 2 big 4 their bodies so they sank 2 the bottom, i rescued 7 of them (becoz she had they really really late) but 5 of them died that night and now i only have 2 left and they r looking pretty healthy now. i have a devider in my breedin net 4 the jrs and babies until the jrs can b sold...

....does anybody have any advice on y this may have happened 2 them??? it was so upsettin becoz they could hardly move and my bettes and adf must of had a field day...

...any info wld b great....

There are two possible reasons that come to mind now. Either she aborted, or the fry are inbred.

In terms of abortion....is there anything that may have stressed her out? A male harassing her, lots of tankmates, a smallish tank, a breeder trap...anything? The big bellies makes me think they still had some egg sac with them, which would point to them being premature, which would in turn point to abortion.

It's possible they are inbreeding defects, but since her other batch turned out well...it's hard to say.

My personal guess is abortion.

thanks for the info but if they where aborted then y has 2 of them survived and lookin really healthy with a orange hint in them now? i dont think its interbreedin coz i only have 1 male and 1 female, i didnt put her in a breedin net as i did that the 1st time and she got really stressed, the tank is a bit small but im gettin a bigger 1 in 2 weeks, the only other tank mate she has different in there is a african dwaf frog x
