I have a pair of silver dollars - and they like to swim but are cramped (for the time being) in my 15g hex. I often catch them with bruises but have just seen an open wound on one, 1/2 inch from his eye. Should I do anything or not?

Keep an eye out for secondry infection.

To speed up healing and help prevent any secondry infection after skin damage Melafix is very good imo, - not cheap though.

:)

People are gonna think im on commision soon but as www said melafix is very good it will help healing and reduce the chance of infection, as will doing regular water changes to keep the water in top condition,

As i said elswhere if your going to use any maedication and have carbon in your filter take the carbon out for the period of medication, thean put carbon back in to remove any left over medicine

thanks again - he seems alright tonight  - more shopping lol.

btw - can you sex sd's ?

Andi,
Another good remedy is Dick Boyd's VitaChem.

It is a little more than Melafix, but the added vitamins in it are very good for your fish.

It has great healing properties as well. I use it periodically as a boost to for the fish.

Don't need to remove the carbon when using it nor is it harmful to the beneficial bacteria in your filter.

CM not familiar with that this side of the pond, does anyone know if its available over here?

:)
