I have just found a red area on one of my gouramis which looks either like a wound or an ulcer.

The problem is all the gouramis have it but not anything else.

I have never had this before and havent got a clue what it is but as all gouramis are affected, is this significant

try adding some melafix thats good for healing woulds.

But it could be some sort of infection or parasite under the scales.

what is your water like??

If you can post a pic up

Sorry can't post a picture!!

Had water tested today and apparently fine

The areas are round and the only reason I say ? ulceration is that they are round with a sunken centre. They are on different places so no common ground there. Tje blue gourami looks really bad when i got home tonight and he is my favourite.

Could it be a wound inflicted by the others that are with them?

I have 4 Beunos Ares (sp) tetras, two Balas, scissor tails and 2 black widow tetras plus a common plec. They have all been together for months but wounds only appeared 2 days ago

Sounds like an ulcer. Gouramis seem to get these from time to time. have seen this treated with salt in a quarantine tank. It is infectious so watch your fish carefully. Not sure if there is a med for it though. Will try to search and see if i can find some info. HTH :)

Edit - Its called furunculosis and here is a Link

Hi Pinky,

Does it look anything like this?

What area of the body is infected?

THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!

Yes that is it furunculosis!

I have now lost three more. There are two remaining but they don't look too good. One has a lesion on base of tail and one above its gills and the other has only one above the gills. The lesions don't look so raw now.

I treated that tank for a week as a molly looked like it had fungus. The treatment was fungus and finrot treatment.

1. Did that cause this or was it a coincidence?

2 Why did this treatment not cure th gouramis although no lesions were evident when treatment was happening

Thanks, knew I could rely on you lot!! :look:
