Hello! I have 12 danios, a betta, 3 queen loaches, and 2 more or less carnivorous plecs (iow- they won't eat veggies) in a 55 gallon. I have been feeding each its own food: the danios get flakes, the betta i target feed betta pellets, and i drop in the sinking shrimp pellets for the bottom feeders. I give frozen shrimp or freeze dried bloodworms every so often to break things up.

How ever, my danios are FAT. 2 or 3 in particular are rather obese. (unless they are females and their stomaches get huge with eggs?? IDK) Anyways, what is happening is the danios eat their flakes, some of the betta pellets, and then go down and munch on the shrimp pellets. The betta happily goes down to help them out (Some days he doesn't even bother with his pellets). The loaches only eat the sinking pellets once in a while- they happily chase the danios away when they feel like it, they just don't always feel like it.

Some people have told me to feed right before lights out, because the danios wont eat after lights out, and this solves the problem of making sure pellets are left for the plecs, but would this also prevent the loaches from getting the pellets?

My question: How advisable/unadvisable is to skip the flakes and feed a pellet for everyone? Everyone seems to like the shrimp much better in the first place, and my substrate is sand so it sits right on top where they can get to it. Would this help keep weight down on my piglet danios, or are there other complications and issues i'm not thinking of with that alternative?

Thanks!
