I'm am going to change the sustrate in my two tanks from gravel to sand.

To store all my tank water when i remove it I have thought up an idea so that i can hold more water. Just need to know if it will actually work

I was think about have a cardboard box lined with a bin bag and using an airline to siphone all the water out of my tank into it. Would this be suitale to hold water for about 1-2 hours.

Also would it be safe to hold the fish in it to or should bag them up?
You see, i don't have a bucket ... something a fishkeeper probably should have lol. I use a watering can instead

I would personally double the lining on the box for added strength but it should work,
You would only really need to keep around 50% of the water at most, and then you can simply top up the other 50% from the tap when you're done.
I changed my tank over form gravel to sand about 2-3months ago and my fish were in 10G buckets for about 6 hours and they're all still fine. :good:

Just be sure [from others on here] that there is nothing in the bin liner that could leach into the water, as some of them seem to have a coating

i want to do this move!

but i have a bucket big enough for my fish haha :D

i guess i could just shove the filter and heater in too and take my time ^_^

get a bucket, they are like 99p

There is no way the carboard box unless really strong will hold the weight of the water

also, hope you dont have a plec or any other catfish or anything with barbs! And yea, bin liners are really cheap and made to throw away so they would not need many rules governing chemicals etc so quite likely to be unclean. A poly fish box will hold the water (Usually) and fish shops will usually give you these. Another option is a stacker box or 3. At least you can clean these out. I have used these a lot in the past as they are quite large.

And dont forget the good old bath!!! :good: Again though, scrub it with carex or similar then give it a good rinse. And warn the other people in the house! :)

Thats a good point actually.. i have a big storage box.. also i was rumaging around in my garage earlier and found a bucket. will have to wash it out tho because dad has used it for washing the car.

I did have a bucket but i moved house 4 years ago and left it.. never got one since lol... sounds stupid but a watering can has done a good job!
