I am thinking of breeding bettas, dont worry I have kept bettas for awhile and have done lots of research on breeding and raising the fry, so im not just jumping into this. But I was wondering if this would work. I have this aquarium http://www.backyardstyle.com/shop/index.ph...op-flypage-2997. I was wondering if it would be ok to put the male on one side and the female on the other and condition this way? Then after the female is full of eggs, and done conditioning would it be ok to put them both in a bowl? So that they can spawn? The only problem is that the male might have already bult his bubble nest, and if I transfer him it could cause some confusion. I have read that if the males bebble nest is destroyd then he will rebuild it. So I just wanted to get some of your thoughts on this idea. If you have any suggestions or if I am doing anything wrong from what you have read on this, please tell me. Oh yeah I forgot to say another good reason that this would work is because once the fry have hatched I would remove the male so I can feed them, but could the fry jump out of the bowl?

That tank is much too small for conditioning, or permanent housing of adult Bettas, I'm afraid.

And a bowl should not be used for spawning. The minimum is a 5 gallon, and 10 gallons are even better. Fry are so delicate that the slightest water quality problem can kill the whole lot of them, and that's assuming that the temperature is high enough for them to even hatch.

in a word, no. :D

that would be WAY too small. it's really too small for even 1 betta, let alone 2 that are being conditioned for spawning. a "bowl" is not really an appropriate spawning or fry tank.

there is a great article in the pinned topics that gives a great overview of betta breeding and how to prepare/what to buy for it.

you really wouldn't want to be moving them back and forth between tanks while they are spawning, no matter what the size of the tank.

i am not a breeder, so that is all the general info i can give, i'm sure some more experienced people will help out! :D

edit: kiarra types faster than me. :p here is the pinned topic!

Yeah, what they said.
Minimum size for grown betta: 1 gallon
Minimum size for breeding: 5 gallons

Don't worry about messing up the male's bubblenest... the instant he sees the female he'll make a new one. I strongly suggest you read the pinned thread newfishies linked to before moving forward with breeding :)
