Hi All,
I had a look today at LFS for some filter media and every thing was packaged to suit this and that and would cost a small fortune to keep buying these products.

My system is wet/dry in the hood filter system, noodles on bottom, then black course foam then carbon.

So I am keeping the noodles, ditching the carbon and keeping the black foam.

So this is what I would like to do,noodles on bottom of tray, some form of filter media on top of that, then black foam on top of that.

Would the wool on this link suffice for my middle filter part, thing is,it says traps larger particles and I am relying on the coarser black foam on top for that with hopefully this other stuff picking up the finer stuff.Sorry two links which would be the better, second link says catches fine particles.

Thank you.
not really, this is fine for polishing water. but would clog very fast, and need thrown away when dirty.

Check out pond departments of garden centres for different densities of foam sponges. Usually cheaper than aquarium variants and can just be cut to size.

As raptorrex says filter floss is for final stage polishing as it will clog very quickly and can't be cleaned, just replaced.

Thank you Aquascaper,
so have I been doing it wrong all this time with my other tank, filters went like this,on the bottom ceramic noodles,on top of that filter floss and on top of that(first point of contact from spray bar) black course foam pad?

Black course foam is rinsed each water change and wool rinsed as well or a portion replaced as necessary.

What about these:
