i am in the middle of buying a new 72x24x30 tank and i am considering having another go at making a planted thank

the fish i am currently planning to move over are

black ghost knife fish x1
elephant nose x1
l201 x1
bristlenose x 1
blue acara x 2
bleading heart tetras x8
severum x4
parrot fish x2
pearl gouamui x2
rainbow shark x1
royal whiptail x2
common plec x 1
royal panaque x1
cherry barbs x 6 will move them on when the sevrums arcas get bigger

will these fish be okay in a planted tank and would parrot chiclids be too destructive as i dont want to rehome my fish id rather go without plants but if it would work to a reasonable degree id be happy to invest in some decent lighting co2 and a decent substrate i would like to replicate something like this

maybee a couple of red plants and i would like to make them pearl (is that the right fraze for when they bubble) but i dont know a lot about plants so i thought i would check before shelling out the cash

hi, tbh you have a few species there that are totally incompatible with most planted setups,

Severums can and will annihilate a planted tank in a matter of weeks, with the majority of plants be eaten,
Parrots may or may not do the same, depends on individual
Common plecos are big and clumsy and will flatten plants

Also IME you can't keep BGK and elephant nosed fish in the same tank without aggression being shown between the two, due to their electric currents bringing themselves into contact with eachother.

btw Red plants are generally the first to get eaten and are also the hardest to keep alive, With Severums you need to stick to tough dark green leaved plants like anubias, and java fern

From your list i would be looking at;

1x black ghost knife fish OR elephant nose

20x bleeding heart tetras
3x pearl gourami
1x rainbow shark

4x severum
2x parrot fish
2x blue acara

2x royal whiptail
1x L190 Royal
1x L201

and then add in maybe a few of the following, Silver sharks, kissing gourami, Golden Panchax, Rainbows, Hoplos, Reedfish, etc.

thanks for the reply i think i will give up while im ahead then and just stick to the plastic plants as i have grown fond of my current setup although i havent noticed any trouble between the knife fish and elephant nose i do keep a close eye on them and i have a spair tank ready just in case
