I'm thinking about getting some corys for my 55g but was wondering if the corys and my pleco would fight for food since they will be eating the same kind of food?

Hi Durbkat :)

Corys don't fight with anyone. They are friendly little fish.

All you would have to do is put in enough for for everyone and they will all do fine. :D

Thanks, I was just worried because of how fast my pleco can eat a algae wafer that the corys wouldn't get a fair share of food.

Hi Durbkat :)

Corys need more to eat than just algae wafers. They should have a balanced diet with some live or frozen worms, some flake and some algae wafers.

I would be more concerned about the pleco making the bottom dirty than about the corys not getting enough food if you feed them enough. You will need to make it a practice to vacuum the bottom regularly. :D

What kind of corys were you thinking about getting?

I never knew corys needed more than algae wafers because algae wafers has been the only thing I've been feeding my corys and pleco. Julli corys I suppose but I'm not sure if I'm going to do it or not because my grandmother most likly may not let me do it 'I'm just throwing out ideas.

Hi Durbkat, :)

Corys like a varied diet, and need meaty food to thrive. Your other fish will probably like some of it too.

The fish sold with the name julli is often the C. trilineatus, but that's a very nice cory too. So is the bronze or albino C. aeneus, which is a very sturdy and playful kind of cory. I think you would like them too. :D

I never knew Cory's needed Algae wafers? I have just been feeding mine flakes?
I know how you feel though as I often worry as well that my Cory's will not get enough food. :-(
When I feed them the tetra's go mad eating everything that drops. I imagine very little if any ever reaches the bottom? How do you make sure your Cory's get enough food....short of separating the fish? :S

I love your pic Durbcat it's so cute :D

Feed you Cory's when the tank lights go out in the evening, if you feed catfish and algae wafers they will sink right to the bottom. If you put the food in, just as the lights go out the Tetra's will be too busy finding a area where there going to spend the night!

Anita...

Hi Cory_Cat :)

Another good thing to feed them is freeze dried tubifex worms. They are an inexpensive, but high protein, food that is good for corys and most fish. If you feed it by holding the cube under the water for a minute or so and then shaking it and rubbing it between your fingers until the worms separate, there will be plenty of little bits for everyone. Some are sure to reach the bottom for the corys too. :D

Cory_cat which pic do you like, the one where it says "my bubbles" or the other one with the similey faces poking the x box?
