hi when i upgrade my tank i wanna do a juwel rio 240, im hoping if i can change my room around :p. now question is here wld be the layout of my 1st floor bed room.
untitled.jpg

where the tank would be is on a corner of the house, would it fall through the floor? :S

Also when changing tanks i will put all my water into new tank but could i just put the fish/corals in there straight away aswell or would i have to acclimate them. could they survive in a sand storm :p?

cheers

Well it all depends how solid the ceiling/floor is. If you position it in the corner there should be some joists supporting it well aswell as the support of the 2 outside walls which should all support the weight of the tank quite easily.

Well I guess the simple answer is no your tank will not fall through your floor. I really don't think I've ever even heard of this happening. What you do want to be concerned with is the floor shifting or sagging under the weight and a seam splitting or the glass cracking. Most likely you won't have any issues. If you are woried about it try to spread out the force by placing plywood under the stand or supporting the floor from underneath with a small beam.

It will almost definatly support it but if u wanna be a real smart a** you could get the structual drawings and find where the supports are. But you better worry about getting the tank upstairs first getting my 4' up 2 floors was hellish.

If it makes you feel any better, we have a 150 gallon tank, stand, canopy set up in our townhouse, on the second floor..and it hasnt fallen through yet. So I think youre good to go.

Get ten of your friends, have them stand in the spot where the tank will go and jump up and down. If they don't fall through neither will your tank. It is a good idea to just an extra support to balance out the weight of the tank.

Since it is against a load bearing wall it should be all good.

awsome! just need to money now, bring on my bday! cheers

And a fail-safe way to make sure the weight of the tank is distributed evenly is to not put the feet on the juwel base. Leave it completely flat, this way the weight gets distributed over a 4ft area and not 4 or 6 little feet, meaning the pressure is MUCH less. This is what I have done with the big tanks in my bedroom on 1st floor.

The problem is that your friends probably won't want to stand in the same place for a number of years to see if the beams gradually weaken. The floor may have great impact resisitance for a couple of jumps, but over years it can weaken.

A 60 some gallon tank placed in the corner of a room with both sides on load bearing walls should have no problems as long as the house was built after 1900.

Exactly :)

240 liter = 63.401 292 298 gallon [US, liquid]
240 liter = 52.792 619 592 gallon [UK]
