I've noticed that some stores by me have some quite unusual looking flower vases, most of which are considerably thicker than the bowl I'm using, so I was wondering would I be able to put my fish in one?

BTW: the glass is about 20mm thick and the bit at the bottom is a dip not a base...

Don't see why not, as long as it is glass, not ceramic. Ceramic may leach toxins into the water. I've heard of people using much less attractive things for keeping fish, and they worked out just fine.

it looks perfectly fine unless the dip in the bootom makes the bottom of the vase thiner then the sides
