I going on holiday 2moz and have holiday blocks for the fihs :) Just asking if guppy fry would it from it?

how long you going for? If it is more than a couple days then the fry must have some sort of feed. If by blocks you mean those white, piramid shaped, plaster blocks then they are not suitable. They polute your water. Guppy fry are quite big for fry so can manage most foods. Can you not get a friend/neighbour to come in?

i dont think holiday blocks are healthy for any kind of fish. most feeder blocks contain mostly plaster, and it doesnt take a genius to know that plaster isnt good for fish. i believe tetra has made a new kind of vacation feeder that is suspended in a gel like substance. im not sure how well it works, but i think this would be a much better choice than one of those blocks if you were to use it.

Im away for 10 days
Awww too late now, i go 2moz and ive got no other option! :/

whoever said they aren't suitable, can i ask how this is true? Of course it is suitable. It was made for the purpose!!

Holiday blocks are fine, i use them whenever i go on holiday in all of my tanks, they might cloud the water a little, but some aquarium wool in the filter and a couple of water changes will clear it up.
Fry should eat from it, i doubt you will need the whole block, snap it in half, that will be plenty for your fry.

The plaster ones aren't recommended as they do cloud the water up too much.
The Tetra ones are quite good and the fish just eat from them as and when they are hungry, they don't pollute the tank in anyway either. I'm not sure if the fry would eat from them but then I can't see any reason why they wouldn't.

Well my friend tried those tetramin gel food blocks, when we went away for 4 days. We came home and the fish hadn't even touched the gel block. So not sure how your fish are but the fish didn't like them. The fish were platies, corydoras, amano shrimp and cherry barbs.

Read the ingredients, It is mostly plaster, barely any food anyway.

If you throw a sponge filter in there, perhaps they can live off the infusoria and whatnot.
Or since they can eat crushed fish flakes by now anyhow, a regular feeder on a timer might work.

Thats debatable, for fry probably considering they cant go that long. But for full grown adult fish IMO it is more risky to drop one of those blocks in or have a neighbour come feed them, the blocks can nuke the water quality and your neighbour could screw up. I would rather take my chances not feeding them, the chances of them starving are slim to none. There are much better things than a holiday block you could use for feeding fry when you are gone.
