Even if there not in good condition? My 2 Angel Fish, their top fin are half way gone so can I still trade it in? I want to get rid of some of my fishs for african cichlids. Okay I'll tell you what fish im going to trade and tell me what you think and if I'm able to trade.

1 BGK (Still in good condition) I can't afford to feed this fish anymore because im running out of blood worms and they cost money. Its may be 4 in. long im not sure though.

1 Gourmi still in good condition

so what do you think?

It all depends on the lfs. Mine will take back anything, but they only give you a third of what they think they can sell them for... if a fish is worthless they would just take them and give it away I am sure... I think most lfs do take fish in though.

The one near us told us they would take our CAE when he got too big for our tank, we could trade him for an otto or a shrimp or something. I never asked about fish that aren't in good condition, that's a good question.

A good lfs might well be wary of taking fish in poor condition, as they might well be more susceptible to infections that could then spread through the tanks. Also, let's face it, it's not the greatest advertisement for the shop if customers spot fish in poor condition in their tanks. Still, it does no harm to ask. You could also advertise the fish on the buy and sell forum.

But next thing you must do is to review your tank situation. Have you got a tank big enough to keep those cichlids in? And please make a resolve never again to buy fish until you have thoroughly researched them and know you will be able to cater for their needs. If you are still only set up with a 10 gallon tank, all you should be keeping is a small group of 1-2 inch tetras or similar, not oscars and BKGs, and certainly not African cichlids (other than shelldwellers).

I think if you cant afford the food for your BGK and your angels are in such poor condition you shouldnt consider getting new fish full stop, as all cost money to maintain their health.

Getting rid of fish because they are worse for wear to get healthy ones is only a shortcut and what happens when the cichlids start looking tatty.

Now if you were planning on getting rid of your community fish soley to concentrate on cichlids then most LFS will entertain you as they still retain a customer.
