Would A Fluval 1 Filter Work Sideways?

Ive got a fluval 1 filter im going to be using for my cory fry the waters not going to be very deep and i want to keep the suction part of the filter away from the floor so is it ok to have it running sideways?


Also is it ok to have a pair of tights over it to stop the fry getting sucked up into it? should i put the tights over the whole thing or just the bottom?

should be no problem running it sideways as it is fully submersible
Put tights over bottom section but to be honest they wouldn't harm anything covering it completely
