Well, as I said in another thread, I just moved into my college dorm yesterday. I noticed that my little Sakana had a small tear in his bottom (anal, I think?) fin. I didn't think much of it, I just figured it was stress. I put a small bit of melafix in the water and left it at that. He was doing fine 10 minutes ago, but I just glanced up, and the tear is all the way up his fin, almost to his body! I just did a test on the water. Here's the results it gave me:
Nitrate - 20
Nitrite - 0
Hardness - 120
ph - 8.4
He's in a 10 Gal. filtered tank, the water temp is about 84. It's divided and there are two others in there besides him... they are both fine.

Anything I can do for the poor little guy, or should I just watch and wait for a day or two?

Is there anything he can be getting his fin stuck on?

Not that I know of... he was fine at home, and there's nothing different in the tank now than there was at home (besides a different city's water, of course).

You posted all teh parameters except Ammonia...what is it?

Well, my test kit uses the same square for nitrite and ammonia, so it is 0. I use AmmoLock, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Last night before I went to bed, Sakana's tail had a small little slit in the middle of it. That slit is a lot bigger now... It's almost to the end of his tail now. I don't see anything that he could be getting caught on... what could be going on? It can't have too much to do with the water, because I have two other betas in the same tank, and they are both fine. :/ In fact, Diamond is recovering nicely from a mild case of fin rot.

Wheres the filter in relation to him? What decorations are there, and substrate? Splits aren't usually disease indicators, diseased fins usually have coloured tips (eg, black can mean finrot) and get shorter and shorter.

He has the exact same set up that he had at home. He has a little cave that looks like a tree stump, three plants along the divider, and the filter in the back. I use natural colored gravel and there's a small pile of smooth stones at the back of the tank, because he likes to play there and I didn't want him getting caught or otherwise hurt on the gravel. The filter is a Duetto 50, and it's set pretty low... It's been in there for a few months now and I haven't had any problems with him getting caught in it, even though he does like to play around it. :/
