now i know they rasp on wood etc but i have been watching my bn at day and night (recorded him) and i have never ever seen him eat anything

he doesnt bother with wafers cucumbers nothing

yep courgettes the way forward for mine, also peas but they make my big sailfin aggressive and possessive of them.

why would you need water stats for that its since ive had him (nearly a year) he is about 8" long

he is a big lad and must be eating something other than wood

What species of plec is it? Maybe it's eating tank algae. I have hardly any visibe algae in my tanks but my BN are always feeding on (invisible) algae on glass sides and artificial plants. Although all my plecs get algae pellets, JMC and fresh veg daily, even my huge L001 and common plec sometimes nibble on glass tank sides.
