A short while ago I noticed some small white worms in my fish tank and now the lid is covered in small flies almost moth like. What are they? Are they dangerous? and how do I get rid of them?

I have no idea what they might be but - are you sure the worms (larvae actualy if this is the case :p) truned into the 'motth-like flies'? The only white worm-like things I can think of are planaria. It's unusual for such creatures to go unoticed - my fish would have made snacks of them in an instant. They probably are not dangerous and getting rid of them should be as simple as wiping them off (if you don't mind killing them), feeding them to the fish (the adults that is - if they prove harmless) or flicking them into some kind of container and releasing them outside. Oh they could be midges... Try googling to see if that's a possibility and perhaps consider taking and posting a pic for more accurate identification.
