Im not sure exactly what this is, but there seems to be a large number of tiny white stringy things dwelling on the glass in the tank, and even on some of the plants.. what sould i do? i'v tried using some anti-bacterial stuff, twice, but it doesnt seem to have had any effect.

Those would be parasites and would require measures that kill parasites.

Hydra comes to my mind when first reading this post... Might also be anchor worms or leeches.

Organophosphorus insecticides for leeches
Overfeeding is the cause of flatworms--routine maintencance
Manintain general hygeine and tank conditions
In small numbers, ornaments can be removed and cleaned vigorously in running water
Three-spot gourami and the paradisefish eat hydra
Remove all fish and keep the tank temp at 40C or 104F for a few hours. Change substrate and vacuum.
Also sensitive to salts .3-.5% salinity for five days does the trick.

Sounds like planaria. They show up with overfeeding or bad water quality. Fish eat them though, and they are harmless :)

:) Well, I have to admit, i have been overfeeding them, but that's because our darn LFS didnt actually tell us the feeding requirements. Though they are harmless, is it best to get rid of them?

If you keep up with your regular maintanence, they will eventually go away. So make sure you don't overfeed and keep up with your water changes, including gravel vac.

I feed once a day, enough for them to eat within 2 mins or so, and skip one day per week. Unless if you are dealing with small fries or difficult species, this schedule is more than sufficient.

We have three Guppies, and 2 Cory Catfish.

We feed once every two days, (now). For the guppies we use flakes, and for the cory's we put in this round disc thing which they nibble on. after a while it falls apart and then the guppies chew on it too.

Also, what exactly is meant by poor water quality? Is it PH, GH, and KH etc, or is it just referring to the amount of crap in the water?

This is more the amount of "crap" in the water - I used to get those in the tanks that have large sized gravels and didn't do gravel vac often. I never see them in the tanks that use pool filter sand or play sand....
