Woohoooo 5.5 g for me!!

Hey everyone,

I just got a 5.5 g tank today! I'm so excited even though I know its not the biggest but wayyy better than the silly half gal I got now.
I'm thinking about splitting it 2 times to make 3 little departments, I already have plastic canvas as well. Or shall I split it into 4? That would be like a gal per fish.. I don;t know what's better.
Also, do bettas deal with pumps well? Because if I have a pump or filter then that would help me a lot. What's the dif between them? Right now my betta doesn't have anything except light and he's fine with that. I just heard they didn't like pumps... but filters are different right?

Synirr, this tank will be for your babies!! Can't wait til I get them in a few weeks!

I have a 5 that I split twice. I like it alot.

Bettas typically don't like water current and filters put out water current.
You could try splitting the tank into 4 pieces (that would be over a gallon each) and put a sponge filter (doesn't make a lot of current) in one of the empty spaces so you'd still have room for 3 babies.

I can make the sponge filter too correct? It's in the DIY? Can it go into the fishies compartment? I'm most likely going to split it twice so I can fit 3 babies, so each has over 1.5 g

Congrats on the new tank, I'm sure the babies will love it!
I think a sponge filter will be just fine in one of the betta's compartments, especially since you can buy a valve to control how much air goes through it and cut down on the current if need be. There's a sponge filter in one of the 10 gallon growout tanks right now and nobody seems to mind

Awesome thx Synirr, I can't wait! Haha now that I look at the 5.5 gal it seems small.. figures, it's never big enough, but for 3 it will be great!
