Hey All,

Just had to tell you, the excitment is killing me!

I have just purchased another 4ft tank, which arrives tomorrow. You would think six tanks would be enough, but no, lol.

I have just placed my order for a male and female Medusa (L255)

Expected to arrive on Tuesday, which will give me time to cycle the new tank.

Im hoping to breed these, I know that they eat live food like bloodworms.

Just wondered if anyone has tried to breed these already and had any sucess.

Any Tips would be great!

ps) can anyone think of any names to call them?

Hiya. First of all congrats and I wish you every success.

However now the bad news:

I bought 4 of these a few months ago also in the hope of perhaps (in time) breeding them. There is little info out there about them but I have since learnt a few things and been able to speak quite a bit to a plec breeder who knows quite a bit about these in particular.

Anyway, have a look at one of my previous posts :

All I can tell you is this:
These fish (wild caught) that you are ordering have obviously very recently been imported and have complete a very long journey. They have then been put into a tank for a very short while before being packages again to ship to you. By the time they will arrive at your house, they would have completed an immense journey with a lot of stress.

I have since found out that these fish absolutely do not do well with stress and varying conditions.

Acclimatize them extremely slowly and use the drip method when introducing them into your tank. I.e. open the in a dimly lit room, float their bags in the tank for 20 minutes. Then very slowly start introducing tank water into their bags. You will be impatient to see them swimming around and settling in, but just take it slow.

They are unlikely to eat anything for the first few hours. They will also swim around the tank quite visably and it will take them a few hours to find a new "home". From then on you will hardly ever see them again.

Feed lots of live & frozen food where possible. They require a meaty diet and are not algae eaters. They will NOT compete for food so if you have any large fish in the tank, they will gobble up the food first and there will be nothing left for these chaps.

You need over filtrated water with a very strong current and a very very stable PH.

I just read a comment that said "they are arriving on Tuesday which will give you time to cycle your tank". If this is the case (even if you are cloning a tank) - I will advise you not to get them. Save your money and wait until you have a well established tank ready for them. Or else they will almost certainly die :/

But all the best of luck. Hope they do well :)

Thanks for that mate,

I had already read you reply on the post you linked me too, I have spent several hours reseaching them, it was a choice between the King Tiger or one of these.

I have received my new aquirium and bought a master test kit, they are great.

I have tested the aquirium and am pleased with the tank. will test on monday just to be sure, im using strong filtration too.

If the tests indicate that the water conditions are not up to scatch then I will put them in my quarantine tank which has been set up for mths.

The reason im not putting them straight into the other tank is because I have just bought a new tank especually for them.

That isn't a long time for a tank to cycle in. Please do put them in your spare tank until it is very stable. It would be a shame to lose them after all the work. I know how you feel, wanting them a.s.a.p. I have my pictus cats waiting for me even now while my tank is still be cycled. They are literally 10 minutes walk away and I'm dying to have them home, but with my son in hospital most of next week and the tank not yet ready, I wouldn't dream of bringing them home yet. I am lucky in having a good stable ph here, even if it is 7.7. At least it doesn't flucuate.
I do wish all the best with them and be good to see some pics once they're settled.
Hugs,
P.

Mells they are likely to die in a tank that has only just been set up for a week :/
I really do hope you decide to keep them in your well established tank for a few months until the other tank is ready.

Not trying to patronise but these fish are not hardy and extremely sensitive.
There's no more I can really add, but good luck.

BlooZoo2 what do you keep yours with, on their own?

How long have you had yours, how many do you have?

What parameters is your tank for them, so I can ensure that mine are correct.

In my quarentine tank they are, PH 7, temp 28c, strong filtration and airation.

The ammonia and Nitrate levels are ok too.

Do you have bogwood in your tank?

Im using Bogwood, Terrocotta pots, live plants and sand.

Thanks Mate

They have arrived, woohoo. So far so good, just the packaging alone was worth the shipping cost, would recommend Trimar!

Will post a pic when the come out of their cave that I made out of slate.

Ps thanks for all the info guys.

I agree with a later "POST" this is an Awful Short Cycle Time.
Just make sure all is well as IT CAN BE, before you Put them in their NEW HOME..
As far as you Saying you WOULD THINK 6 TANKS WOULD BE ENOUGH??
BUT NO...

You can Never Have ENOUGH TANKS
My Wife thinks So, But I don't agree, She has 7 Birds in different Cages,
And I only have 1 Fish tank, I told her that if she Has 7 Birds in seperate Cages, I should be able to Have, "AT LEAST" Seven Fish Tanks.
I think thats "ONLY FAIR"
DON'T EVERYONE ELSE AGREE???

Hi Daddyfish,

Well I never put them straight into the tank, they went into quarentine. I lost one medusa 3 weeks later.

Well I now have 8 tanks, lol. And I agree with you, that you should get more tanks.
