hi,

I have been soaking some wood in boiling water for 3 weeks in a bucket. changing the water at least once a day
the water is gradually getting less and less brown/green however the wood is failing to sink completely.

am i ok to put the wood in the tank this soon, providing i can hold it down somehow? or have i just got to wait for the wood to completely sink first

heres a pic of the wood: http://tinypic.com/r/24eq9w0/7

thanks

dan

You can add the wood any time if you can sink it. It will always send your water a brownish colour (it's the tannis releasing from the wood).

I think you have done enough boiling for sure. It's ok to boil for a few minutes but having wood in boiling water for that long is going to break down the fibres of the wood. Just soak the wood in room temp water until it sinks, then put it in the tank. If you don't want to wait, you can also hold the wood down in your tank temporarily with some large, strategically placed rocks.
