i got a new peice of wood and over a few days a white moss like thing is growing on it ??? how do i get it offf

It's probably some sort of algae; just take your wood out and give it a scrub in hot water and it should come off :) It may come back and you'll have to scrub it off again, but it'll stop growing eventually.

Tried boiling it a few times?

whilst this seems like a good idea, its not. boiling the wood will start its breakdown. boiling/cooking, breaks down the fibre of the wood, fluttermouth has give sound advice!

Most people recommend boiling it to release the tannins...I did the same to mine....

Very likely to be fungus, you really do need to take it out and manually scrub it.

(I never recommend boiling the wood, for me much of the point is so it releases tannins into the aquarium!)

I agree, that's does not mean they are right though. a little research, on your part, will reveal my comments on the breakdown of fibre are true.

spot on there. there is good evidence that tannins actually benefit your tanks inhabitants. even more so with inverts. there are occasions when things are done for the benifit of the owners eyes, not their fish.
