Hey guys, is there any harm in using a wood diffuser in lieu of an airstone or bubble rope. I like the look of the bubbles created but I have only seen them in use inside protein skimmers.

Will the fish freak out? or worse still will it act as in the skimmer and bring crud to the top of my tank?

Cheers.

nothing wrong with them at all. i use one in my cube tank over night to reduce co2 build up. the bubbles are much finer than with a normal airstone but thats the only difference.

If your water is exceptionally hard and high in pH than it could result in the bubbles forming into foam like in a protein skimmer but this is quite unlikely.
