Sorry for asking 3 questions in a row!

I have just had a 40G tank delivered but the problem is I have wonky wooden floor boards - how important is it to have the tank completely level? It is really heavy and I am having problems manouvering it. The delivery guy said it is OK to be a tiny bit squint as the hood will hide the slanted water level. Will this put alot of stress on the glass?

Also, should I try and correct this by putting cardboard or something between the cabinate and the floor or between the actual tank and the cabinate?

It is best to have it level, you put less stress on the tank. Shim it between the stand & the floor. It's easier to level the tank than to clean up 40 gallons of water, fish, & everything else in the tank, not to mention water damage repair.

If your tank starts out level when it's empty, & starts to go out of level as you fill it, you had better have a carpenter look at your floor. You may just have a leg or 2 on a weak floorboard, which is really no big deal, or the whole floor bay be starting to sag, which is serious.

Tolak, Now you have got me scared! My flat is 100 years old and has had historical subsidance which according to my surveyor is all OK now but accounts for nothing being at 90 degrees to anything else! Hopefully I'll be OK with some carboard packing under the cabinate.

but.....just out of interest do house insurance policies cover collapsing fish tanks?

haddock,

Cardboard may not be such a good shim, cos it gets compressed very easily. I have used some old vinyl floor tiles to great effect before, they do compress, but only a little.
