I was going to feed my bettas and I noticed a bug (looked like a mosquito) ontop of the water, just sitting there when all of a sudden my female swam up under it, froze then lunged forwards and grabbed it, thrashing around like a little shark. It was totally cool. She'll be ok though? she won't get sick or anything right?

Exactly what is it you think they eat in the wild? Unless it was a radioactive bug..then she will be fine.

Haha, I love it when they do that... instinct kicking in :flex:
I had a tank full of juvies in the storage room of our garage until very recently, and I used to find cricket parts and stuff in there all the time. The only thing that was ever left of the bug were the parts too tough to eat

I've seen several people suggest ants...don't they sting them though? We have tons of ants...that's the only thing that's stopped me...worrying that the ants will sting them. :/

Question? So Could I go outside and catch a couple of ants and feed them to my fish?

I don't know what they're called, but we call them piss ants. They're the little tiny ones.

We have those too, they're crazy. If you leave one thing out- they find it! Otherwise they're seldom seen, they just come out of nowhere. Often, a bloodworm or two gets left on the edge of my grow out tanks and the ants come after it, I've seen them floating in the water before, the fish don't really like them. I wouldn't feed them to the fish by choice anyway.

I know what you mean, you drop a bread crumb and all of a sudden you have millions swarming around you

I have fed my fish larvae from flour beetles and he just yummed it up!!! Everytime I find them in the tank it goes and it is gone--just like that!!!! :D

Last yearm when I first got Karl... he was a picky eater. Tried to beed him an ant. He took a bite of it and killed it, but did not eat most of it. Have not fed them ants since... Like what wuv dais, I don't betta's like them.

when it was flying ant season a month or so ago, my betta had a feast!!
grabbed them, dragged them round the tank, then yummed them up!

he loves live stuff, whenever little knats and little flies get into my room i'll catch them and give him them.

and he even had a baby earthworm the other day, loved it he did.
