hi im trying to quick cycle a tank, what ive done is put the filter in the main tank where the fish i wanna move into the smaller tank is, had it on there running for 4 days, now ive pulled it out and took water out of the main tank into the smaller tank and put the filter in there, gunna let it run for a day or so then add fish, will it work??

It will work but i would move the fish as soon as you move the filter and fill with the water as the bacteria will require an ammonia source to stay alive. Just test the levels prior to putting in the fish to make sure everything is fine.

I did the same thing recently. I also stuck a piece of filter material from the established tank. I got a bacteria bloom later that night. It worked great.

Sounds like a good plan, but yes, put the fish in asap too as tstenback says, depending on levels..
