so the water is level with the top of the weir so it doesnt over flow so when the pump(yellow thing) in the sump pushes water into the tank it makes the tank over flow into the weir so the water goes into the sump with various filter media(purple space) and then into the pump through then the protien skimmer(black green thing on side of sump) then into the uv steriliser(red box in line) and back into the tank so if a liter of water is pumped into the tank a litre of water will go into the sump so if theres a power outage and the pump stopped the water would stop being pumped into the tank so none will go int the sump and no flooding will happen

That's the basic idea. Check out the link I posted in your other thread. Also, always always always use a check valve on the return line to add a second layer of back-siphon protection.

instead could i have the hose out of water and water pours out and gos in as im not sure if i can get a valve as my lfs dont even sell sumps with compartments

Check-valves can be un-reliable. A hole drilled in the return just above the waterline will also break the syphen. I personally advise anyone that buys a tank of me now and that plan to fit a sump, to combine a check valve with a drilled return if they are plumbing themselves and ask for advice :good:

You can't put the skimmer below the sisplay and still use the return pump to feed it. The water will simply go through the collection cup and overflow out of the system  You either need to use the overflows from the tank to drive it, or use the skimmer "stand alone" in the sump with a seporate pump :good: You would have to use a Calfo to rig the skimmer into the overflow pipes, as you don't want air to be sucked into the skimmers reaction chamber under a syphen  Other than that, looks good

All the best
