Ok, some of you may or my not have read my previous topic about LED moon lighting (No this isnt another discussion about them). Ive decided after all the pro's and con's that they would be suitable for a DIY dummie like myself (for anyone unaware of these, check the link at the bottom).

Now, the only problem I have is my lid, more importantly, the angles of which all potential edges are facing! The only really suitable edge for these LED's to be attached to (for maximum effectiveness) is the front side. The problem here is that this edge is angled to point towards the glass (this is clearly an issues as I dont want the LED's pointing outside the tank!)...The only way around this I can think of is to make 5 small wedges, at the right angle so once each LED is attached to one and then to the lid, will face into the middle of the tank.

I have to appoligise for the extremly crude drawing, its the best I can do with the software at hand! If you can understand it you should get the basic idea.

What I really want to know is 1)Is this the best solution? If not, could you suggest another? 2)How/with what materials should I construct these wedges?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Why don't you drill some 4.8mm holes in the lid & poke them through?

Or is that just too simple?

Dont really fancy have wires and holes running along the front of my tank, internal is the most prefferable. Thanks for a solution that didnt come to mind though :)

OK then take that simple idea a step further then:

Stip of plastic. Number of holes drilled in it, LEDs pushed through, wires laid flat to underside of plastic strip. Plastic strip / LED assemply attached to hood were the wedge is, no need for wedge.

Not-quite-as-simple, but still simple.

Sounds good, so a similar concept as I had but with one long strip.

Yep. With the LEDs poking through the plastic, you'll get the desired angle that your wedge idea would have provided.

Make sure that the LEDs poke all the way through, otherwise you'll restrict their lighting angle.

Ta for your input, ill take a wonder down to the B&Q warehouse next week and see what I can dig up :)
