Hi all, as you can see from the attached pic, I've acquired a larger tank (with skulls! lol :p ).

Its got slightly odd dimensions:

30x12x15

(I thought it was 24, teach me to assume!

Anyway, I got some thick plywood cut to 27 inches (thinking it would give me plenty, now its just over an inch short either end.

I've got the polystyrene right to the ends.

The stand is a 24 inch stand (of a design I'm not familiar with) that did not come with the tank, but looks sturdy enough...

I have wooden floors throughout the house, and don't want to risk the tank collapsing etc.

Do you think this set up is safe?, and, if not, should I wait for a larger stand to appear and get some new wood cut?

Cheers!

II don't think it's a great idea - the base need to be fully supported else pressure is put on the seals and unsupported areas.

I would be careful, and I wouldn't recommend filling that without a good base. If you look at any aquarium cabinet you will see that the strongest parts of the stand are on the edges, and the sides are always supported.

Nurglespuss, I'm imagining that filled with water and it looks dodgey!! I'd play it safe if I were you.

Righto :)

Figured so, cheers guys!

I'll keep it on hold until I can get a better stand/base.

Cheers :D

I don't know what's more scarey, the skulls, the legs on that stand or adding water to that set-up! :X

It's a no to all three for me, I'm out!

Make your own xD

Ah!

If only I could. Unfortunately, a lack of trust in my own wood working skills, and a complete lack of a decent hardware store (now that focus is gone) where I live, prohibit this.

I had considered going back a few years, and using some breeze blocks/concrete blocks and some ply wood, but can't even find those!

Don't suppose you live anywhere near Port Talbot do you? Our Focus has recently gone, but with the firm going under i don't know if ours was one of the only ones in South Wales.

Terry.

Hi Terry,

Yeah the whole lot closed up (except one or two that went franchise).

I'm based in Aberystwyth, but my home is in Caerphilly, so cover most of the Mid-South Wales area ;P

Cheers.

How about asking someone to make one for you? A friend? A local joiner? Or how about going to a steel fabricators?

Hi there, thanks, great ideas, we just don't have that in this area (a steel joiner would charge me more than buying an actual stand)...

I may have tracked down a metal stand, but there's the slight difficulty of getting it back here...
