i have two silver dollars about 3 inches long and a 3 inch long common pleco in a 55gallon tank thats the only fish in there, wondering if i can put a school of neon tetras in the tank or will they get eatin???

AFAIK, Silver Dollars are vegetarians, so they shouldn't go for your Tetras.

[Edit: Saying that... fish will eat just about anything, I suppose it depends if they're hungry enough.]

i agree with Fordaz. SDs are peaceful fish and are rather shy by nature and would not normally bother the neons but ....fish being fish they do have big mouths when grown up :shifty:

You should get lots of hiding spaces or more silver dollars.

Those fish will all get pretty big over time, are you aware of this?

If you supply enough food and vegetables or plants, they should definitely leave them alone. Well, at least until they get to 10" or the like.

they should be fine.
I had two silver dollars and about 10 neons in the same tank for ages. never had any trouble with the two.

i understand the process and the fact that my fish will grow large (especially the pleco 12-14 inches in some cases?) thats why im trying to go toward a smaller type of fish variety rather than fish that are nice now but wont do anygood in 2-3years. the tank had a bunch of which were too big so i gave em back to my pops who bought a new tank which is bigger than my 55gal.

I think 3 SDs are an okay number!!

It is true that live plants make for a "better" aquarium.....I mean health wise! And SDs LOVE plants......except mine -_- :dunno: So maybe put a half dozen plants in....fake and real.....feed them good and you'll be fine. My SDs can only fit a whole pea in their mouth none-the-less a FISH!!!! And they are almost FULL GROWN!!! They sure are cute though!!

I'd try it....
