Will seperating the sexes induce spawning?

Can I keep the females in the same tank but seperated by a screen or do I need to seperate them out so they don't have pheramones going back and forth

I seen a tank with some other fish with male/female seperated. I personally think it's cruel because they stay in the center divider all day long looking and pecking at the divider.

first you seperate them and then you put them back together. I took my females to school oneday (in a heated 2 quart jar) and when I put them back in the tank they whent at it and I have read online that they have a tendancy to do that bu I dont want to spend alot f time with the heater so Id like to devide them.
